WHAT TO VISIT IN SEVILLE?
Seville is not a very big city, but it is good city to explore and to see how lively is. Some of the sights of Seville that must be visited include the Cathedral, the Moorish castle of Alcazar, the former upper-class neighbourhood of Santa Cruz, the promenades along the Guadalquivir river and the rougher Macarena neighbourhood with its Baroque churches.
Let’s see some of the sights to visit:
Cathedral and Giralda
The Cathedral of Seville is the third largest cathedral in Europe, it was originally built as a mosque in the 12th century and its 95.5 m height minaret is now the Giralda clock tower, which was one of the most important symbols in the medieval city. Christopher Columbus is buried inside the cathedral.
Torre del Oro
Placed next to the Gualdalquivir river, the Torre del Oro (Golden Tower in English) is a dodecagonal military watchtower in Seville, built by the Almohad dynasty in order to control access to Seville via the Guadalquivir river.
Alcázar of Seville
It was built in the 1360’s for King Pedro the Cruel, and it was built by Moorish builders, that is why it is easy to mistake this for a Moorish palace. The upper levels of the Castle are still used by the Royal Family.
María Luisa Park and Plaza de España
The Plaza de España was built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, inside the María Luisa Park. It is a landmark example of the Renaissance Revival style in Spanish architecture.
